Fundamentals of Financial-Aid

F-o-F-Aid Series

Financial aid is typically separated into need-based and non-need-based categories. Most people define “financial aid” as need-based programs including grants, scholarships, work study, and subsidized loans. Unsubsidized loans and PLUS loans are examples of non-need-based aid.

Knowing what kind of financial aid, you might be eligible for based on the information you provide on your FAFSA and/or CSS Profile and knowing whether any actions can be taken to boost your eligibility for need-based help are smart plans.
